Firmware Engineer - Digital Control for Power Electronics

Summary

Aegis Power Systems, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to design, develop, and maintain digital control for power electronics hardware. Come join our growing team in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina!

The Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring firmware programming meets customer demands and internal development projects. This position works closely with our electrical engineers who design AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC converters and inverters using a variety of power topologies. Candidate must have a programming background using microcontrollers for use in communications protocols including TCP ModBus, CANBus 2.0, UART, and others. The best candidate will be detail oriented, focused on quality and precision, and willing to share his/her skills in a team environment to yield competitive and accurate results.


Responsibilities

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop new programming for C++, CANBus 2.0, UART, I2C, TCP ModBus, and others
  • Ensure programming does not cause loss of signal integrity
  • Manage projects in an efficient and cohesive way, using our ISO9001:2015 / AS9100:2016 process
  • Analyze problems to troubleshoot issues
  • Manage software feature release schedules
  • Maintain in-depth technical knowledge of latest embedded trends 
  • Collaborate with team on overall power electronics hardware design
  • Create technical reports and presentations for team or customers
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Strong familiarity with control theory and use in power conversion circuits with embedded microcontrollers
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Strong ability to understand engineering documents and schematics
  • Working knowledge of military, aviation, and telecom standards (vibration, shock, EMI, environmental, etc.) 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products for use in day-to-day computing
  • Familiarity with PCAD or Altium
  • Working knowledge of electronics laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, analyzers, etc.)
  • Willingness to learn new communication protocols as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar technical field (may be waived with extensive direct work experience)
  • 3 years’ industry-related work history
