Electrical Engineer for Power Electronics
Summary
Aegis Power Systems, Inc. is seeking an associate-level Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and troubleshoot power electronics hardware. Come join our growing team for an on-site position in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina!
As an Electrical Engineer you will have hands-on input to many aspects of our product development cycle. This position works closely with other engineering team members to design AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC converters and inverters using a variety of power topologies, thermal mitigations, and controls. Further, you will work in a cross-functional setting to gather and provide valuable insight to the feasibility, integrity, manufacturability, and quality of the design output. Our power electronics hardware is integrated to support many robust military systems in real-world applications such as radar, RF, communications, mission computing, battery charging, onboard power, autonomous systems, and more. The best candidate will be detail oriented, focused on quality and timely schedules, and willing to share his/her skills in a team environment to yield competitive and accurate results.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Contribute to deliverables such as: Bill-of-Materials, block diagrams, schematics, drawings, PCB layout, design documentation, specifications, test data results, and other necessary documentation
- Understand and follow assorted industry design standards to ensure product success
- Support design reviews with contributions to improve design, cut costs, improve speed, and ensure accuracy of project
- Effectively use a variety of software, tools, and equipment for design and analysis
- Perform product research to determine commercial viability and patentability of new designs
- Research and specify components to match design parameters
- Manage feasibility studies and technical analysis to support new products
- Record key performance indicators to transition prototypes to production readiness
- Design, build, evaluate and test first generation technically advanced products
- Troubleshoot designs and prototypes to provide failure analysis and resolutions
- Establish and write manufacturing processes for production of hardware
- Manage/control documentation in a timely, efficient manner following internal ISO9001:2015 / AS9100:2016 procedures
- Prepare technical presentations for government agencies, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders
- Support all of the above in an organized, efficient, and safe manner with clear communications in oral, written, and non-verbal forms
Required Education & Experience
- BS in Electrical Engineering or similar technical field
- 3 years’ industry-related work history (can accept lower if hold a Master’s or PhD degree)
Preferred:
- Experience with military electronics standards (MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, etc.) or equivalent automotive standards

Engineering Sales Representative
Summary
Aegis Power Systems, Inc., a power electronics engineering and manufacturing firm, seeks an Engineering Sales Representative to join our growing sales team! This position supports technical sales of custom and standard products and reports directly to the department manager. The candidate will be expected to build technical customer relationships, achieve individual and company revenue objectives, and influence the Aegis product roadmap.
The candidate should be familiar with electronics hardware manufacturing and can effectively communicate the technical aspects of AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC converters and inverters, along with other power electronics-related products. Experience related to defense systems, mission computing, shipboard/marine electronics, and/or aircraft systems is of high value, as a large portion of our customers are in the defense industry.
The Engineering Sales Representative should excel at verbal and written communication in English. This role is heavily customer-facing, and the candidate must feel comfortable regularly engaging customer personnel in engineering, program management, procurement, and military leadership positions.
Cross-team collaboration skills are imperative as the candidate will work with internal engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and support departments. This will include working closely with our engineers to develop custom products as needed to meet unique requirements and provide input regarding Aegis product roadmaps. The candidate must analyze customer needs, keep aware of competitor benchmarking, and advise internally of potential paths to meet market needs. Experience developing and reviewing extensive proposals tailored to meet those requirements is beneficial. Furthermore, proficiency in building external partnerships to expand company capabilities is helpful.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Technical Expertise & Solution Development:
- Identify key customer technical requirements and recommend appropriate power supply products
- Collaborate with customers to understand their design challenges and identify opportunities to
leverage Aegis technology - Develop strong customer relationships and act as a trusted technical advisor
- Analyze market trends, competitors, and new technologies
- Contribute to strategic sales, product, and department planning meetings
Sales Support & Customer Engagement:
- Influence customer part selection and favorably position Aegis products against competitors
- Partner with commercial sales representatives and headquarters engineering team members to
drive customer sales - Visit customers on-site throughout the US
- Attend and exhibit at defense and other industry events
- Ensure leads are qualified and responded to promptly
- Review customer formal RFQ documentation and assess feasibility
- Prepare quotes, proposals, and presentations for internal and customer communications
- Ensure key sales activities are recorded in CRM software
- Participate in contract negotiations
- Achieve sales targets
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5 years of successful related experience with 3 years in the defense industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
- A working technical background in electronics system design and manufacturing
- Knowledge of power converters and power electronics-related parameters/specifications
- Able to utilize CRM system for lead tracking, quoting, reporting, and team collaboration
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills with the ability to communicate technical power supply-related details to customers
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite
- Must have high ethical standards, including honesty, dependability, be able to react well under pressure, and be respectful of others
- Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and negotiation skills
- Able to travel domestically (~25%)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7 years of experience selling to defense contractors and/or directly to the DoD
- Knowledge of defense industry practices and environmental standards such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, etc.
- Eligibility/ability to obtain US security clearance
