Introducing the Aegis Power Systems drop-in Tactical Microgrid Standard Interface (TMSI) module to support the new MIL-STD-3071 standards released in 2023. This new standard, also called the Tactical Microgrid Standard (TMS) “establishes the communication and control interface requirements for Tactical Microgrids (TMGs) to enable TMG components to operate as a single entity to provide electricity in a tactical environment.”
What is a Tactical Microgrid?
A tactical microgrid is an off-grid military power system which gives users an adaptable mobile system consisting of interconnected power distribution units, generation sources, energy storage devices, and load devices. This highly flexible and controllable system provides battlefield electricity in austere conditions for a wide assortment of mission profiles.
Why does my system need a Tactical Microgrid Standard Interface (TMSI) module?
The MIL-STD-3071 standard defines the hardware and software interfaces required to provide smart controls for power stability, quality, performance, safety, and security in a tactical microgrid. In an effort to quickly mobilize off-grid power systems, the military can make use of existing power equipment as long as there is a way to communicate and control the various pieces of hardware. That is where the TMSI module offers a drop-in solution to allow military users to interface quickly to existing hardware products to mobilize a tactical microgrid.
